Abstract The Jurassic igneous rocks of Dronning Maud Land represent Karoo flood basalt magmatism in Antarctica. Fifty years research has documented systematic differences between magmas associated with the rift-zone (Vestfjella and Ahlmannryggen) rift-shoulder (Sembberget, Kirwanveggen) settings. 189–182 Ma tholeiites were chemically diverse mainly formed compound-braided flow fields which record several magnetic polarity reversals. In contrast, c. 181 uniform thick tabular sheet lavas within a single normal period. volcanic architecture records long initial phase slow eruptions from shield volcanoes rift brief voluminous fissure flooding shoulder. All major magma types settings belong to Nb-depleted category basalts derived depleted convective upper mantle by magmatic differentiation. Pyroxenite-rich components may have been significant sources for most enriched types. Geochemical fingerprints recycled crustal material imply that mildly subduction-modified parts same overall upper-mantle reservoir Ferrar tholeiites.
